JSA (Jobseekers Allowance)is a payment which you can apply for if you are unemployed and looking for work. How much will I receive on Job Seeker’s Allowance?
The amount you are eligible for is related to your individual circumstances, as well as the type of JSA that you are entitled to. This could be either income-based JSA or contribution-based JSA, depending on your circumstances.
How do I qualify for JSA?
You need to be ready and able to work,and be between 18 years old and state pension age, along with meeting other requirements that change periodically. For more advise please telephone a specialist at the JSA Claims Number who will give you the up-to-date information.
What is the difference between contribution-based and income-based JSA?
You can receive income-based JSA if over the past two years you have made sufficient Class 1 National Insurance payments, if you have not paid any, or not paid enough, then you can receive income-based JSA which is based on the amount of money you have coming in.
Do I need to attend the Job Centre as part of my claim?
Yes, all JobSeeker’s Allowance Claims involve an interview at your local Job Centre. You will be required to: log the actions that you have taken to look for work and the responses that you have had, e.g proof of job applications; and to show a copy of your CV. Claims are processed after the interview, and take around two weeks.
Do I have to go to the Job Centre while receiving JSA?
Yes, there is a mandatory two weekly ‘signing on’ day for all JobSeeker’s Allowance Claims in which you must attend your local Jobcentre. JSA claims can be cancelled if you fail to show up for your appointment without a valid reason and without informing the Job Centre.
What do I do if I have not received my payment on the expected day?
Unfortunately JobSeeker’s Allowance Claims can sometimes take longer than usual to process, or there may occasionally be an administrative error. If this happens telephone the claims department as soon as possible to have the matter resolved swiftly.
